hoo hoo hoo hoosiers

well, this was the first gift of hanukkah...and unfortunately, it already put me over that $50 budget ((oops))...can i blame it on having a big heart? i have been looking forward to giving alex this gift for quite some time, only letting him know not to make any plans for the weekend. i didn't really clue him in at all, although i did offer some hints in the gift wrapping...crimson wrapping, white ribbon, a dreidel painted with a basketball design. if THAT doesn't give it away, i'm not sure what would without spilling the beans.

i was ecstatic to wake up yesterday morning and share this gift with alex. i woke him up bright and early at 9am, dragged him to the couch, and had him open his gift...and to his surprise we were heading down to IU! i may have been more excited than he was to visit his alma mater, see the undefeated hoosiers play a mean game of basketball, tour the campus, and enjoy a night out.

well, we made the trip in a 3 short hours and had no time to spare before the game. we stopped for a quick bite at dagwoods, checked into the hotel, and then walked on over to the stadium. although not one of the biggest games of the year, i'm glad we were able to see the hoosiers win another game and remain undefeated at #1. to my surprise, alex pointed out john cougar mellencamp, alongside meg ryan, and i just couldn't keep my eyes on the game. there was quite some distance between us, but i knew it was them.

after the game we hiked on through campus where alex pointed out every little detail of his college career. :) i loved hearing all the stories and seeing where the events i've been hearing about these past 3 years have taken place. 

we finally made it to kirkwood - the bar scene - and stopped in for a drink at kilroys. after sipping down my long island, we ventured on over to nicks...and we ended the night at sports. for a couple who doesn't go out often, and when we do...still get home at a decent hour...we stayed out until the mean hour of 3am. whoa.

all in all, i'd say this was a successful surprise which made for a fabulous spontaneous trip down to bloomington, in.
